Day 1 // Truth 1 - God made us

Genesis 2:7

“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

Whenever I feel down or go through something difficult, I always find it uplifting to declare truth over my life.  If you’re feeling like you’re not enough then you can declare the truth that God is enough.  If you’re feeling like you’re alone then you can declare the truth that God is with you, so you are never alone.  Over the next five days we will be exploring five such truths that you can declare over yourself.

The first truth is “God made us”.  God is the creator of the whole world, and He created us as the most significant part of His creation.  He made you and has a very specific plan for you in mind.

God made you and has a plan for you.  (Jeremiah 29:11)

God made you in His image and His likeness.  (Genesis 1:27)

God made you fearfully and wonderfully.  (Psalm 139:14)

Even when you question who you are, your purpose, or how you got here; the truth is that God made us.

Do you believe these statements about how God made you?  Why?

Day 2 // Truth 2 - God loves us

1 John 3:1

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God.”

God loves us.  What a truth.  It is a truth that is all too often questioned, disputed, and doubted.  It is a truth that we teach our children while they are young and hope that they believe until they are old.  It is a truth that we can hold onto regardless of our situation.  It is a truth which is unwavering, unshakable, and unstoppable.  It is a truth that has the power to change your life.

God doesn’t give us “drops” of His love, but He lavishes His love on us. “Lavish” means to give extravagant amounts of.  God’s love is extravagant.

Even though we sometimes hold back from God, He never holds His love back from us.  I once heard this great saying:  “I can’t brag about my love for God because I fail Him daily.  But I can brag about His love for me because His love never fails.”

Even when you don’t feel like you deserve to be loved; the truth is that God loves us.

What expressions of God’s extravagant love have you seen in your life?

Day 3 // Truth 3 - God provides for us

Matthew 10:29-31

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.   And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So, don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

I love God’s reminder to us here; that if He looks after the birds, then He will most certainly look after us, as we are way more valuable to Him than they are.  He wouldn’t bother to know how many hairs are on your head, unless He was going to look after the one whose head the hairs were growing on.

The Bible says, in Genesis 22, that God is “Jehovah Jireh”, which means “The Lord will provide”. We all want God to provide something different for us; a job, a house, a friend, a spouse, finances or healing.  If God was Jehovah Jireh to Abraham in Genesis, and God was Jehovah Jireh to the sparrows in Matthew, then God is definitely Jehovah Jireh to us today.

Even when you are worried that you won’t have what you need; the truth is that God provides for us.

What do you need God to provide for you today?

Day 4 // Truth 4 - God forgives us

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive

us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

So often we can feel unworthy of God’s love and God’s provision because of something in our past which we have done, but God has forgiven us of our past.  We have all sinned and fallen short of who God created us to be, but we all have hope because God sent His Son, Jesus, into the World to save all sinners.  We simply need to confess our sins and God will forgive us… every time.

We should not use God’s forgiveness as an excuse to sin, but once we have sinned, we should confess it because we know that He will forgive us.  Once you have been forgiven, whenever your past overwhelms you, declare the truth that God has forgiven you.  God has removed your sins from you “as far as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12) so you do not need to be weighed down by them anymore.  Even if you don’t “feel forgiven”, God has said “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18).

Even when we have made choices that seem unforgivable; the truth is that God forgives us.

What do you need God’s forgiveness for today?

Day 5 // Truth 5 - God is with us

Joshua 1:9

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,

for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

No matter where you are, you can always declare the truth:  “God is with me”.  Wherever you go physically in the world, God is with you.  Wherever you go mentally in your mind, God is with you.

Frustratingly, these words are easy to quote when we are in our comfort zone, but harder to live out when we are heading into the unknown.  God was with us where we were; God is with us where we are; and God will be with us wherever we go.

God wants us to remember that although it is natural to feel afraid, His supernatural power is with us, so we do not need to be afraid!  God wants the fact He is with you to overcome your feeling of being alone.

Even when we feel alone or afraid; the truth is that God is with us.

The five truths that we have read over the past five days are simple truths that you can declare over yourself when you are feeling confused, unloved, worried, guilty or lonely.  I pray that you will remember these verses when you most need to declare truth over your life.

How could you remind yourself of these truths in your daily life?
